Property Readiness Assessment Guide

An independent, homeowner-focused assessment for anyone considering a heat pump upgrade or reviewing an existing system that isn't performing as expected.

A Property Readiness Assessment (PRA) gives you a clear, impartial evaluation of how ready your home truly is for an Air Source Heat Pump — before you commit to the cost of installation. It identifies any issues that need addressing, while also highlighting where your property is already compatible, helping you avoid unnecessary and expensive upgrades.

A Property Readiness Review (PRR) provides the same honest, evidence-based insight for your current system. It acts as a detailed performance health check to pinpoint why your existing Air Source Heat Pump may not be delivering the efficiency or comfort you expected.

Both services are designed purely for homeowners. With no ties to any installer or manufacturer, they remain completely free from sales pressure — giving you the unbiased information you need to make confident, cost-effective decisions.

PRA vs PRR — Which Do You Need?

Both services follow the same impartial principles. The difference is whether you are planning ahead or troubleshooting an existing installation.

Choose PRA or PRR, pick a date, and pay securely at booking. You receive confirmation with what to expect on the day.

2

On-Site Visit

We carry out a structured assessment at your property — practical testing where applicable, room-by-room review, and clear notes of what we find.

3

Written Report

You receive a professional written report with findings-based recommendations. Share it with your chosen installer or use it to plan improvements with confidence.

What to Expect On Site

When we visit, we carry out a structured, evidence-based assessment which takes around 2 hours to complete. Whether you've booked a PRA or a PRR, we gather practical data on how your property and heating system perform in real conditions, then turn that into clear findings you can act on.

How We Test

Where safe and appropriate, we run your system at heat pump operating temperatures (typically 45–50°C) to replicate the lower temperatures generated by an Air Source Heat Pump. Using sensitive equipment, this check shows how compatibly your current system heats your home under these test conditions. Throughout the visit we use professional-grade tools to capture accurate, live data:

  • SensorPush room sensors — we deploy these in the 4–5 key areas of the property to capture accurate, live temperature-rise data across the test period
  • Thermal imaging — to highlight heat loss, cold spots, and distribution problems
  • Temperature probes — for pipework and system component readings
  • Room photographs — documenting issues found, referenced in your report

What We Check

We review your home as a whole — not just the heat pump or boiler in isolation. That includes your existing heating system and emitters, pipework, controls, and hot water setup. We look for anything that affects efficiency and comfort: cold spots, poor heat distribution, insulation weaknesses, and compatibility issues that could leave you paying more to run your system than you should.

Your Report

Everything is compiled into a professional, evidence-based written report with clear, actionable recommendations — not installation quotes or design specifications. You'll receive your report by email as standard; a printed hard copy is available on request.

Scoring & Interpretation

For a PRA, we combine practical test results with a structured room-by-room review to assess heat loss, heat retention, current heat output, and component compatibility. That feeds into an overall property readiness band — so you understand how ready your home is today and what to address first. For a PRR, the focus is on your existing system's performance and efficiency, with prioritised, findings-based recommendations rather than a pre-install readiness matrix.

Why It Matters

The right information at the right time helps you make confident decisions — and avoid expensive mistakes that only show up after installation.

Avoid Costly Surprises

A heat pump install on an unprepared property can mean expensive remedial work later. An assessment highlights issues before you commit — potentially saving thousands in avoidable rectification.

Know Where You Stand

PRA reports include a clear readiness band and room-level scoring so you understand how ready your home is today — and what to address first.

Share With Your Installer

Take an impartial, evidence-based report to any MCS-certified installer. Findings are yours to use — we do not quote install work from assessment results.

Existing System Health Check

PRR is ideal when your heat pump is already installed but not performing as expected — a focused review with prioritised, findings-based recommendations.

What Is — and Is Not — Included

Included

  • Independent, impartial on-site assessment
  • Practical testing and room-by-room review where applicable
  • Professional written report with findings-based recommendations
  • Clear readiness band (PRA) or prioritised improvements (PRR)

Not Included

  • Heat pump sizing, pipe sizing, or MCS system design
  • Installation quotes or install work arising from assessment findings
  • Recommendations for specific heat pump models or brands
  • New boiler-to-heat-pump conversion design or commissioning

Findings reflect property condition on the assessment day only — a snapshot to inform your decisions. Future system performance depends on many factors, not least the correct system components being specified and installed at the point of installation.

Impartial by Design

Eco Service Solutions does not carry out work off the back of a PRA — your assessment remains purely advisory. Following a PRR, we can carry out recommended remedial work if you ask us to, but we will never proactively offer or push those rectifications. The homeowner is free to use any engineer of their choosing to carry out work arising from the report.

That separation keeps our assessments completely impartial — no commercial bias, and no pressure from us. Any follow-on work is entirely your decision.
